About the Gemstone
Opals display a phenomenon known as "play of color" where light reflects off of tiny spheres within the opal and bounce back as a party of color and light. These beads are cut in a flat round shape called 'heishi". Opals that do not display play of color are called "common opal". This strand contains beads of common opal in white, pink, purple, green, blue, and brown with some displaying play of color.
Opal has a Moh's scale hardness of 5 and should be handled with care. When storing opals, it is best to store them away from anything that can scratch the opal.
