Valentine's Day is a family holiday around here. We celebrate the day a little different each year but my goal is to make the kids feel extra special. My husband and I don't go out for dinner anymore on V-Day because it's always too crowded and most restaurants want you out within an hour! So we've reserved our Valentine's Day dinner to homemade heart shaped pizza's and handmade Valentine's Day cards. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Here's a list of things to do on February 14th:
1. Wear something that makes you happy and pile on your most personal and favorite jewelry! Wear heart shaped necklaces, birthstone pendants, heirlooms from passed loved ones, and remember you are loved.

Every Valentine's Day I wear a heart link chain I received on my 16th birthday and my great aunt's gold claddah heart, a heart charm my brother bought me in grade school, and one of my turquoise heart pendants.
2. Go for a walk outside. Taking in that cold fresh air is an energy booster and if it's sunny out, get rid of those winter blues and increase your seratonin exposure. Increasing serotonin is said to make one feel more focused , emotionally stable, happier, and calmer.
I try to take a brisk walk on the beach this time of year, especially if it snowed the day before. I love how the beach looks with fresh fallen snow against the rough ocean waves.
3. Instead of going out for Valentine's Day dinner, make a homemade dinner instead. Heart shaped mini pizza's are fun for the entire family to make. I use store bought dough from Trader Joe's or ask my local pizzeria to buy their freshly made dough. Cut the dough into sections and start forming mini heart shaped pizzas. Top with sauce and your choice of toppings. We love fresh tomatoes, meatballs, pepperoni, broccoli, mushrooms, and peppers.
4. Bake a valentine treat! Some ideas include pink Heart Rice Krispie treats, Cupcakes, and Peanut Butter and Jelly Heart imprint Cookies.
For the Krispie treats cut out into hearts with heart cookie cutters or we spelled out "BE MINE" with letter cookie cutters. Find recipe here.
Bake cupcakes and add pink food coloring to make them pink. Bake them in heart shaped silicone cups and top with icing and sprinkles.
One of my favorites are the imprint jelly cookies. Find the recipe here.
Shop some of my favorite heart jewelry and style them in your own unique way. Here is some inspiration for you. This is how I wear hearts and snakes from the "Hearts & Horns" Collection.
